Hi, this is Wilma, founder and President of Kidz Quiltz. Thanks for following our blog. It has really expanded around the world since we started. We are growing at Kidz Quiltz. In January we shipped 100 quilts to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. The winters there can be brutal. Other quilts went to local kids before Christmas. Our total now is 3,833 quilts for kids. including Eastern Europe in 2009, Haiti in 2010 and Joplin, MO in 2011. We will have a quilting day at Fort Lupton, CO all day March1oth. at Kidz Quiltz.
We have a new chapter started in September in Arnold MO. Our new chapter run by Rachel Arnold will have their first big quilting day on February 18th at the Arnold Rec Center.

Our goal is to have 12 new chapters in different states and give 1,000 quilts in 2012. If you, or someone you know would be interested in working with Kidz Quiltz e-mail us at kidzquiltz@yahoo.com

2011 Overview

2011 was a great year for Kidz Quiltz.

Not only were we able to give away 593 quilts to tornado victims, World Vision, local Food Banks, and others, but every day was busy with volunteers and people performing community service making quilts.

We started a new chapter of Kidz Quiltz in Arnold, Missouri. We're very thankful for Rachel Arnold to be leading this chapter.

We were also able through countless donations, make the final payment on our building!

We thank the Lord for continuing to provide for Kidz Quiltz. While we still have some financial burdens, we recognize that God is working and He has blessed Kidz Quiltz beyond our imagination. We look forward to a great 2012.

Taking 105 quilts to Joplin

In September, Lyle and Wilma Hamilton loaded up 105 quilts to take to the Joplin area that had been devastated by the tornado earlier in 2011.

The quilts went to Rural Compassion where Steve Donaldson was their to receive these quilts and help distribute them to families in need.

Paying Off our Building

In late September 2011, Kidz Quiltz made its final payment on our mortgage. The building is officially ours! You may remember the photo on our blog of the piano for sale. Well, the piano sold and that money went to good use in helping us make that final payment.

In 2010, Kidz Quiltz had 5,500 volunteer hours, distributed 750 quilts locally and abroad, and had 552 community service hours. How's that for giving back to the community? Thanks to all our supporters!

It has been an incredibly busy summer for Kidz Quiltz. We've been involved with parades, county fairs and quilting shows. Plus, we've been doing tons of fundraising - including our first golf tournament. We're within a few thousand dollars of paying off our building completely and cannot wait to see what else is in store for Kidz Quiltz. July Quilt Day

Some of our volunteers during our quilt day July 17th. Thanks for helping make more quilts to send to needy children. Because of our volunteers, in June, we were able to send 25 quilts to and orphanage in Chihuahua, Chihuahua and 50 quilts to tornado victims in Mississippi. Thank you!

Firehouse Quilts Show

Kidz Quiltz showed a couple of quilts at the Firehouse Quilts exhibit in Cherry Hills on July 16 & 17. Both these quilts are for sale. One is double wedding ring completely hand sewn and quilted. The other is Sunbonnet Sue applique.

Working Together for the Kids

Well, it's been a busy few months here at Kidz Quiltz. We sent quilts and water-proof material to Haiti, sent over 400 quilts to World Vision, and 50 quilts to Mississippi to help the recent tornado victims. We're so thankful for our volunteers who work countless hours in making these quilts for the children. Here are some photos of our recent quilting day.

Water-Proof Canvas on Its Way to Haiti

Kidz Quiltz dropped off over 300 yards of water-proof canvas at Magnalab in Longmont, CO today.

They are collecting only non-perishable goods for the Haiti earthquake victims. All goods collected will be shipped to the International Red Cross in Haiti. For more information, please visit http://haitineeds.com/.

Blankets for Haiti Work Day

We had a great 'Blankets for Haiti' work day this past Saturday. We worked on 50 quilts that will go to World Vision in hopes of helping with the relief work in Haiti. Thanks to all our volunteers for a great, fun day and making a difference.

100 Quilts Sent to World Vision

Kidz Quiltz delivered 100 quilts to World Vision on January 25 in hopes of helping with the relief efforts in Haiti. Thanks to our volunteers for their important work!

We recently purchased and moved into our building. Thanks to all our great volunteers who helped us clean and get things moved in.

What's New?

Kidz Quiltz has their own building! It's official, the papers were signed on September 22. We've been fundraising to pay for our building and had raised enough funds to proceed with the purchase of it. We continue to fundraise to end the year debt-free. $15,000 more to go. We so appreciate our supporters who are making this happen - even in a recession. Thank you!

We plan to have a work day for our building on Saturday, October 24 from 9am - 3pm. If you're available to help, we'd love to see you there.

We've also sent 50 quilts to Haiti! These quilts left this past Friday with a medical missions team. We're excited to hear about their trip and the people they were able to show God's love to during their time in Haiti.

Trapper Days

Well, it's that time of year again for Trapper Days in Ft. Lupton, CO. This is always a fundraiser opportunity for Kidz Quiltz. This year it rained, so the crowds were down some, but we still raised over $200 for our building fund. All in all a good day of fundraising, raising awareness about Kidz Quiltz and spending time with friends.

Well, it's been awhile since Kidz Quiltz has updated their blog. We've been busy!

In April we decided to move from our building. With the economy as it is, it just wasn't making sense to stay where we were. Now, we're working out of our President Wilma Hamilton's basement and more of our funds are able to go straight to supplies needed to make these quilts for needy children.

While we hope this is a temporary place for Kidz Quiltz, we are still hard at work. Here are some photos from June's quilting day.

20 Quilts Delivered to Local PD & FD

Last week Kidz Quiltz delivered 10 quilts each to our local Fire and Police Departments. These quilts will be put in the police cars and fire trucks ready to be used in cases of emergency.

Open House

Kidz Quiltz had a successful Open House that we hope will be the first of many.

To date, Kidz Quiltz has distributed 1,827 quilts to children in need.

We had a silent auction to help raise much needed funds.

World Vision Update!

Hello friends,

Originally we reported that 250 quilts went to World Vision, but through the kind donations we received and our great volunteers, the final total was 425! Now that's teamwork.

We'll keep you posted as to where these quilts are distributed as we hear from World Vision. Right now, the thought is these quilts will most likely go to Eastern Europe.

250 Blankets Sent to World Vision

Kidz Quiltz sent 250 quilts to World Vision this week. World Vision is a Christian humanitarian group dedicated to helping those less fortunate across the globe. Kidz Quiltz volunteers packed up the quilts and took them to World Vision's distribution center in Denver.

22 Quilts Sent to Orphanage in Mexico

Kidz Quiltz sent 22 quilts to an orphanage in Mexico the week of December 7. We were able to include Spanish Bibles in the 'Bible Pocket' on each quilt.

Helping Children in Africa

One of the Kidz Quiltz Board Members, Sandra Wright, had the opportunity to take 20 quilts with her to Cameroon, Africa in October. While working with local missionaries, she was able to give quilts to children who were poor. One quilt would benefit 2 or 3 children as it is not uncommon for siblings to share a bed with each other.

Quilting Day

While Kidz Quiltz has many volunteers daily in-and-ot of its building, every once in a while we host a Quilting Day. This usually takes place on a Saturday when we can get all our volunteers together at the same time. It's a great day of getting together with friends and helping with a great cause.

Our wonderful building that houses 10 sewing machines, several quilting frames and a selection of fabric that gets creative juices flowing.
